Yesterday's Dream

This is the second dream I remember in which I was Arika from Mai-Otome. I came in my Robe to Garderobe at night to find it abandoned, with only Nina there. She loaned me a “Robe repair kit”, with whose help I fixed mine.

I criticized the design of Robes, pointing out that they’re revealing. “And Mahya only has one here (pointing at my nipples) and here (pointing at my hips)!” Then I went to a drawer to look for a blank CD to burn some information on it, and threw away a few broken ones. Then I thought about Putin and Medvedev, and woke up.

Fandom Note

Wow. There is now fanart based on my fanfic (and not even the one I consider my best)—and I manage to find this depiction of Martha Jones even hotter than Freema Agyeman. Which is quite a feat… That’s probably because my imagination draws the rest.

I wonder why I was called “her”, though. Maybe this has something to do with the default gender of fanfic writers, which happens to be different from the default gender of Internet users in general?

Looks like it’s time to update both “Himeno FC-I” and “2008”. Readers are waiting—down with procrastination!

Moonlight

I still can’t find any satisfactory rational explanation for why so many people find moonlight romantic, myself included. For some, it extends to any kind of dim light, and they theorize that this is because, with the picture ahead of you being less clear, your brain has to “fill in the blanks”, and you can do that in any way you want.

However, I can’t stand candlelight, or dim lamps, for that matter. Although I do like artificial light sources that embellish the color white and make it look shiny, but that’s different—I like it for being surreal, not romantic.

Apparently, the word “moon” has become so associated in my mind with the words “lucid” and “dream” that whenever I hear one of them, the other two immediately spring up as well.

I like snowy winter nights, especially when there’s no cold wind. I like to stand under snowfall, with moonlight illuminating the surrounding snowdrifts and trees, turn on my player and listen to my favorite Mai-Otome songs, which almost seem to be designed to be heard that way. I want to hear Otome wa DO MY BEST deshou! on New Year’s Day, while I’m eating the traditional food.

When the moon is visible from my room at night, which (unfortunately) doesn’t happen often, I like to pull the curtains open, letting moonlight flow into the room, and lie naked under it, first on my back and then on my stomach, looking at the light caressing my skin. I’ve been doing that since 15, and this real-life fascination is where my character’s obsession with moonbaths in WoW stems from.

Summer Cleaning

The new blog software is gradually coming to life. I’ve got tags and RSS working, plus moved some articles to Textile and added redirects from their old URLs. I didn’t map WordPress categories to new tags because I didn’t see the point – it will be better for me to later tag every post manually, since I’ll add some new tags anyway.

Per-tag RSS redirects from the old address for the purposes of Planet Ubuntu, but global RSS doesn’t. Therefore, if you’re using RSS on this site, you should update your client to use the new URL as linked from the sidebar.

Two pages are also available at new addresses (with redirects from the old ones):

The “Mai-Otome GEMs” article, originally saved from Wikipedia, is now available at this address on Wikia’s Mai-HiME Wiki.

To convert HTML (as used by WordPress) to Textile (as used by the new software), I use this Python script, originally downloaded from here and tweaked to read HTML from stdin and write Textile to stdout.

To determine what legacy URLs need to be mapped, I use the public inbound links page. What, you didn’t expect it to be public? Well, both the QDB and Sideways Spa contain one each as well, and admins can see your IPs. Be warned.

What needs to be done:
* Archive
* Tag cloud
* More articles
